In this post, Sarah Toland and Belinda Woolrych discuss the reasons why you would hire furniture instead of using your own.
Using your own furniture can sometimes mean you are showing slightly older style furniture, which could be a bit worn out and tired. You also might inadvertently overcrowd the rooms and visually, for your own personal space, you’re probably fine with it, but a stylist will help encourage a better use and outcome.
We really do need to make the seller’s home feel like a home that your buyer (not you!) wants to live in. Therefore, sometimes that means swapping out some older furniture. Usually we bring in better sized and more contemporary pieces for the space. The sizing is really really important when we’re looking at the best use of a room.
Existing furniture also may not align with the demographic and style we’re trying to achieve for the home. A downsizer might have lived in the home for 10, 20, 30 years, but the years go on, things do become different and things modernise. It’s important to choose contemporary pieces to streamline the spaces for easy flow, and to have one room seamlessly flowing into another room, eliminating blockages and opening the space. In summary, unless you’ve had a decorator assist you furnish the home quite recently, it’s usually worth organising furniture hire over using your existing.
